Late Add/Drop Procedures

When do I use this procedure?

Students may add classes themselves until the end of Add/Drop week which normally is the first week of classes. After 5pm on the last day, the Late Add procedure must be used.

Students may drop a class at any time without penalty until the deadline. See the Registrar's calendar for all dates for a given semester.

Students may drop a class at any time until the end of the semester and receive a "W" if this is done after the drop without penalty deadline.

When a student wants to drop a class and receive a refund of tuition, or after the drop without penalty date due to extenuating circumstances and not receive a penalty, then the Late Drop procedure is needed.

Late Add Procedure (for Undergraduate Research see next topic)
  1. Ensure that the class is open by viewing the OASIS schedule of classes. The Department of Biology normally does not approve adds into closed classes and cannot approve adds into closed labs for safety reasons.
  2. Obtain the late add form and the ARC Petition from the College of Arts and Sciences website.
  3. Fill out the information pertaining to you and the course you wish to add.
  4. Have the professor sign the form. If it is a lab, then do not have the TA sign the form. Look on the schedule to find the professor who is the lab coordinator, and have that professor sign the form.
  5. Go to SCA 203 and bring the signed late add form and your ARC petition with your personal information and the course, section etc. filled out. We do not need to see your personal statemnt.
  6. The Undergraduate Office assistant will check to ensure that you have the pre-requisites for the course if required, that there is an open seat showing in OASIS, that all forms are completed and signed. She will then stamp your petition if all the requirements are met.
  7. You may then take all the paperwork to BEH 201. The staff in BEH 201 can tell you the next steps and when to expect a resonse to your petition.
  8. Please note: if the professor objects to the late add, if the class is full, or you do not meet the requirements for the class, then you will not be given a stamp and the process has ended.
The Professor said he would approve my add even though the class is full.

The professor must notifiy the Undergraduate Office personally if he/she is willing to raise the cap on the class in order to permit a student to late add into a closed class. The undergraduate office must ensure that the room is not at capacity. If the room is not at capacity, then the cap is raised and the forms will be stamped and processed as normal. If the room is at capacity, then approval is not given due to fire/safety regulations.

Late Add Procedure for Undergraduate Research
  1. Follow all the procedures for Undergraduate Research outlined on the website (see Courses link in the lefthand navigation pane) and on the contract.
  2. Obtain the ARC petition form as described above and complete it as well.
  3. When you and the professor complete the contract you must go to the Undergraduate Academic Program Specialist for the correct division. This will be either in BSF 221 for CMM or SCA 112 for IB.
  4. The program specialist will then complete the process and stamp your documents
  5. You then take everything to BEH 201 as above.
Late Drop Procedure
  1. Obtain the Late Drop form and the ARC petition form from the College of Arts and Sciences website.
  2. Complete the forms and obtain the professor signature as described in the Late Add procedure.
