Academic Courses
Here are Adobe PDF versions of the Spring,
Summer,
Fall Department of Biology schedules. If a semester is not set up as a link
then the schedule is not available at this time.
Please see specific degree sheet for how the courses apply to your Major (Biology,
Biology with Marine Biology Concentration, or Microbiology) or make an appointment
with your advisor. Students with majors in other departments should see their advisor
to determine which courses apply to their degree.
The information below will help you when you are using the links to the right to
review course information.

Lab Indicator: |
In science and other areas, a "C" or "L" after the course number is
known as a lab indicator. The "C" represents a combined lecture and laboratory
course. The "L" represents a laboratory course or the laboratory part of a course,
having the same prefix and course number without a lab indicator, which may meet
at a different time or place. |

Course prefix
The course prefix is a three-letter designator for a major division of an academic
discipline, subject matter area, or sub-category of knowledge. The prefix is not
intended to identify the department in which a course is offered. Rather, the content
of a course determines the prefix designation.
In other words, just because a course has a Biology prefix (BOT, BSC, ENY, MCB,
PCB, and ZOO), does not mean that the course is a majors course or that is offered
by the Department of Biology. If the course does not contain the AS BIO coding,
it is not our course. (For example: BSC 2085 is a College of Nursing Course)

Common Course Coding
The Florida Common Course coding is used to list all PR/CR courses. For Biology
courses, please refer to the course pages using the links to the right to find the
corresponding course name (i.e. BSC 2010/L = Biology I Lecture and Lab). Below is
the key to the most common PR/CR from other science departments:
- CHM 2045 - General Chemistry I
- CHM 2046 - General Chemistry II
- CHM
2210 - Organic Chemistry I
- CHM 2211 - Organic Chemistry II
- BCH 3023
- Introduction to Biochemistry
- PHY 2053 - General Physics I
For exceptions to the General Rule for Equivalency refer to the USF Catalogue
Key for Probable Course Scheduling:
The course pages include the following codes for assistance in planning; however,
it is based on past course offerings. Due to faculty responsibilities (i.e. research,
sabbatical), and varied resources, this code does not guarantee the course scheduling.
Please refer to the semester schedule for verification; however, even the semester
schedule is subject to change.
Required biology courses are offered at least once a year, and often twice a year.
Although almost all biology course electives are offered once a year, some are only
offered once every other year, or only during the summer.
