Department of Biology Boating Safety/Procedures
Contact Dr. Phil Motta regarding use of department
boats. You must be Coast Guard trained in small boat handling to use the boats.
Read the Departmental Boating Policy (PDF)
prior to using the boats.
Graduate students and faculty must file a
Float Plan (PDF) with the Biology Offices or
Dr. Motta, prior to departing, regardless of whether you are using a
departmental boat or one belonging to the professor's lab. Graduate students must
have this signed by their major professor.
You must specify:
- from where you will be launching
- where your intended destination is
- what work you will be conducting
- when you expect to return.
A float plan is not needed for the aluminum John Boats.
