Plant Systematics
Systematics of Clematis (Ranunculaceae), palms (Arecaceae) of the south Pacific, and Drosera (Droseraceae).
I am interested in the diversity of plant life on earth, and approach it using conventional herbarium studies, comparative plant anatomy, field studies of life history, and molecular biology (in collaboration with James Garey). Subjects for my investigations have included palms, the Ranunculaceae, and carnivorous plants. Currently I am studying the systematics and evolution of the genus Clematis, which involves both morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses, and the pericarp anatomy of the Palm Family.
